Another fun-filled afternoon learning about the art of glass making. Patty explained "how it works" and before we knew it, we were designing a pendant and earrings. They were then fired in her kiln and after another session of cleaning and polishing were ready to be worn by their proud creators. Thanks Patty for a fantastic job - not only for your teaching skills, but also for bringing such a wide assortment of materials and giving us all those great ideas.

Drummunity with Lori Fithian
On April 20th, fifteen sober women raised a ruckus downtown, at Crazy Wisdom, in the tea room above the bookstore. We joined a drum circle, hosted there monthly by Drummunity founder Lori Fithian. She brings in a van-load of instruments from all over the world--everything from grand djembes to water-bottle shakers and "magic tongs."
We all participated, and our group made that night Crazy Wisdom's largest-ever drum circle. We had a great time, met lots of new people, learned a few things, and ended the evening with tea, coffee or soft drinks.
Lori's drumming event happens at CW every month, usually on the second or third Wednesday. It's free and everyone is always invited. Check the shop's calendar for those, and other events at www.cwonline.squarespace.com/
Life on Life's Terms
Second Kiwanis-Funded Retreat a Success!
On Saturday March 19th, 45 women attended the “Life on Life’s Terms” retreat. Ann S. began the morning with a “Fire Drill” for Relapse Prevention. Participants discussed their experiences with relapse, and shared ideas for warning signs, preventive measures, and directions for sponsors and loved ones when a woman is approaching or has succumbed to a relapse. Each person left with a worksheet with their own detailed directions for preventing and dealing with relapses.
After a wonderful lunch of soup, salad, and bread, Susan Morales led a stretching session outside in the sun. The group returned to the meeting room to learn how to use meditation to arrive at a safe place where serenity and guidance can be found during tough times. Two meditation sessions were followed by questions and answers about the value of meditation for recovering women. The day ended with pastries, coffee, and gratitude.

Origami - The Japanese Art of Paper Folding
On January 22nd, Betsy K. led a group of 20 In making origami flowers of two different types. She started us on the hardest one. Mutters of frustration and cries of joy were heard as we struggled to follow Betsy’s carefully designed step-by-step directions. By the end of two hours everyone left with beautiful flowers made out of patterned and folded paper. Most of us even managed to put a stem and leaves onto our flowers.
